Abruzzo & Sardinia
Italian Saffron
Among the most precious spices in the world, Italian saffron is harvested by hand — one thread at a time — from the crocus flower at dawn, in the brief weeks of autumn when it blooms. The saffron of Abruzzo, grown in the high plateau of Navelli, carries a DOP designation and is considered by many to be the finest in existence: intensely aromatic, deeply coloured, and with a complexity that no other origin can replicate. A single gram requires the harvest of hundreds of flowers. That rarity is not incidental — it is the point.
Our standard
Hand-harvested at dawn. DOP certified. Abruzzo & Sardinia origins.

What defines this category
How we select
We source saffron only from producers who harvest by hand and test each batch for purity and potency. Industrial saffron — machine-harvested and blended across origins — is not something we offer.
Our producers
Our primary saffron relationship is in the Navelli plateau of Abruzzo, where a small cooperative of family growers has maintained the DOP tradition for generations. We also work with a single Sardinian producer whose saffron carries a distinct floral character.
