Our Story
Born from Heritage. Driven by Discovery.
Italy's finest traditions deserve to be discovered, protected, and presented without compromise.
A Connection to Italy That Stretches Back Generations
Altieri Italian Imports was founded on a simple belief: Italy's finest traditions deserve to be discovered, protected, respected, and shared without compromise. Beginning in the early 1970s, the Altieri family's involvement in the food and hospitality business created an appreciation for something deeper than commerce. Growing up around that world, I saw firsthand the long hours, pressure, responsibility, and sacrifices that come with running a food business and serving others.
At the same time, I experienced a very different side of food through my grandparents in Italy. Their gardens were not a business; they were part of their way of life. I watched them work the land, grow their own vegetables, care for their trees, make their own wine, and produce olive oil for their family. They did it because it was something they loved, something they had always done, and something deeply connected to family, tradition, and the land.
As I grew older, I came to understand how important those experiences were. They taught me that extraordinary food begins long before it reaches a bottle, a package, a kitchen, or a table. It begins with the land, and most importantly, it begins with people. Behind every bottle of olive oil, every piece of cheese, every plate of pasta, every truffle, every preserve, and every specialty we select are farmers, families, and artisans who have dedicated years of their lives to their craft.
There are early mornings, long days, unpredictable seasons, difficult harvests, financial risks, patience, sacrifice, and sweat. There are hands that care for the soil, tend the trees, gather the harvest, select the ingredients, and preserve traditions passed down through generations. Growing up with both sides of the food world taught me to respect the entire journey, from the person working the land to the person ultimately placing that product on someone's table. I understand both the labor behind producing something and the responsibility of bringing it to someone's table.
Long before one of these products reaches a kitchen, an extraordinary amount of work has already taken place. Before the bottle is opened, before the pasta is prepared, before the cheese is sliced, before a truffle is shaved over a dish, and before family and friends gather around the table, someone has already spent countless hours making that moment possible. A farmer cared for the land, a family tended the trees, hands gathered the harvest, and an artisan transformed those ingredients using knowledge passed down through generations. That connection is what inspires me.
For me, Altieri Italian Imports is more than a business. It is a passion and a calling. My purpose is to create a bridge between the farmers, families, artisans, and small producers of Italy and the people who ultimately experience their work around the table, wherever in the world that table may be. From a family kitchen to a restaurant, from one country to another, my hope is that these products can travel far beyond the land where they were created while never losing the story, tradition, and people behind them.
I want to know the people behind the products we represent. I want to walk their farms and olive groves, understand their methods, listen to their stories, and respect the work that has gone into what they have created. And when those products reach our customers, I want them to understand those stories too. I do not want someone to see simply another bottle of olive oil, another package of pasta, another cheese, or another Italian specialty. I want them to understand where it came from, who made it, what family stands behind it, and how much work and sacrifice were required to create it.
Altieri Italian Imports exists to honor that work, support exceptional producers, and help connect them with people around the world who will truly appreciate what they have created. We are not simply moving products from one place to another. We are carrying stories, traditions, craftsmanship, family heritage, and generations of knowledge from the people who create them to the people who appreciate them.
Because every authentic product carries with it far more than food. It carries the land. It carries the family. It carries the work and the sweat. It carries sacrifice. It carries tradition. And it carries the passion of the people who made it possible — no matter how far it travels from the place where its story began.
With respect for the people behind every product,
Antonio Altieri

We Search for Italy Itself
Our mission is not simply to import products from Italy. Our mission is to discover exceptional expressions of Italy itself. We look beyond mass production and conventional distribution, in search of small family estates, historic farms, artisan workshops, master cheesemakers, traditional pasta makers, truffle hunters, distinguished winemakers, and regional producers whose knowledge has often been handed down from one generation to the next.
Across Italy's Extraordinary Landscapes
Ancient olive groves where exceptional olives are cultivated and harvested to create distinctive single-estate, single-origin extra-virgin olive oils.
The legendary truffle lands where some of Italy's most prized truffles are discovered beneath forest hills and countryside shaped by centuries of tradition.
The birthplace of authentic Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP, where small dairies still make cheese with extraordinary care and generations-old technique.
The historical balsamic cellars where grapes, wood, time, and patience come together to create one of Italy's most treasured culinary traditions.
Carefully selected wines that express the character of the soil, the vintage, the vineyard, and the families behind them.
Across Italy's other extraordinary territories, we seek foods that are inseparable from the places where they were born.

True Luxury Is Not Created Equally
True luxury isn't created equally — it is created by origin, by rarity, by craftsmanship, by purity, by patience, by provenance, and by the discipline to select only what is truly exceptional.
Provenance Is Everything
A great olive oil should tell you where its olives were grown. A remarkable wine should express its vineyard and vintage. A truffle should carry the fragrance of the land where it was discovered. A cheese should reflect its milk, its region, its maker, and the traditions that shaped it. A balsamic vinegar should speak of time. These details are not incidental — they are everything.
Family Ownership, Always
We work exclusively with family-owned operations — estates and workshops where the same hands that tend the land also craft the final product. Family ownership is the only reliable guarantee that the person who cultivates the land is also the person who cares most about what it produces.
Selected Without Compromise
Nothing should be chosen simply because it is Italian. It must represent Italy at its finest. Every estate should have a story. Every producer should have a reason for being selected. Every product should represent something authentic about the region, family, and tradition it came from.
Antonio Altieri
"Italy is not simply a country represented on a label. Italy is my family. It is my culture. It is the language spoken around the table."
Altieri Italian Imports was founded by Antonio Altieri, whose family roots in Italy extend through centuries of Italian ancestry and heritage. For Antonio, Italy is not simply a country represented on a label — Italy is his family, his culture, the language spoken around the table, the traditions carried through generations, the respect shown to the land, and the belief that food is one of the purest expressions of identity.
The Altieri name carries with it a connection to Italy formed long before the creation of this company. That heritage became the inspiration behind a vision to create an Italian import house built not on volume, but on discernment — not on what is easy to source, but on what is worth discovering — not on mass production, but on character, provenance, and excellence.
Antonio's philosophy is deeply personal. The company exists to build relationships with producers who share the same respect for heritage, craftsmanship, land, and uncompromising quality — to discover exceptional products before they become ordinary, to preserve the identities of the families and regions behind them, and to introduce those products to people who appreciate the difference.
For Antonio, this is more than an import company. It is a continuation of family heritage. A celebration of Italian excellence. A bridge between generations. And a way of sharing the Italy he knows and respects with America and the world.
This is the Italy we know. This is the Italy we respect. This is the Italy we seek to preserve. And this is the Italy we bring to the world.
